What is SCRIP?
"SCRIP" is a term that means "substitute money." When you purchase SCRIP, you are purchasing negotiable gift certificates and prepaid cards that are used just like cash. You can use SCRIP to purchase everyday expenses like food, clothing, and other essentials, and with every purchase you earn revenue for school costs.
How does SCRIP generate revenue?
A national SCRIP center acts on the behalf of churches, schools, and other non-profit organizations to purchase large amounts of SCRIP from restaurants, department stores, and other retailers. Because the SCRIP is purchased with cash up front, the participating retailers offer a substantial discount. CCLS buys the SCRIP at a discount, and resells the certificates to families for full face value. The discount -- from 1% to 15% or more -- is earned by you to be applied toward your registration fees, tuition, and other school costs.
Is SCRIP simple to use?
Yes, SCRIP is simple to use. Just purchase gift cards or a certificate for businesses you would be using anyway and the discount accumulates in your scrip account. This credit is then applied to your school account and you save money by making regular household purchases you would make anyway. We have a huge selection of retailers that participate in our SCRIP program. A new posting of businesses is linked below.
How do you get involved?
To save money by using the SCRIP program, you need to start by filling out and returning a registration form. That gives the school the information needed to get your credit to the correct account and to return your certificates to you at the proper place. Then fill out a SCRIP envelope and enclose your payment for your SCRIP order. The envelopes can be found in either school office and at Prince of Peace. Turn in your order by 8:30 a.m. at the Webster campus or by 10:00 a.m. at the Kirkwood campus on Monday and you will receive your SCRIP order on Friday morning. It's that easy. SCRIP is run weekly during the school year, with some changes during shortened weeks and breaks. Check the Charger News for SCRIP information.
